Summer Vacations and Your Smile
What do summer vacation and dental care have in common? If you are talking preventive dental care, you could be talking money! Now we've got your attention, right? When you keep up with your regular preventive dental appointments, you are able to save money and time on future dental treatments. Wouldn't you rather spend your hard earned money on a fun summer vacation this year? If so, then come on in for your regular check-up and cleaning so that we can keep your smile healthy.

Invest Some Time into Your Smile
We all use the excuse that we just do not have the time, but you do! Skip one coffee break at the local coffee shop or one shopping excursion; that is all you need in order to get your teeth cleaned! We will have you in and out of the office in no time, allowing you to get on with your busy life with your oral health intact.

Invest In Longterm Health
Did you know that dental work can save not only your mouth but also your body from extensive disease? The American Dental Association still reports that 100 million Americans skip these important check-ups. Don't be one of them - get your check-up and cleaning and let us get the plaque and tartar off of your teeth that are putting your oral and physical health at risk.

If you want to take that summer vacation this year - come in for your dental check-up and get the summer started off right!

Malocclusion and Its Effects on You
If you go to the dentist and hear the term malocclusion, you might start to worry as it does sound serious. While any dental issue is considered important, malocclusion means that you have a bad bite. There could be a variety of reasons for the poor bite, each of which could make it very difficult for you to keep your teeth clean and free from the risk of gum disease.

Reasons for Malocclusion

Most often, a bad bite is noticed during the early elementary years when kids start getting their permanent teeth - typically between the ages of 6 and 12. Sometimes the issue is overlooked causing you to have problems well into your adulthood. There are a variety of reasons that children and adults have a poor bite including:
•  An overcrowded mouth that does not leave enough room for yet to erupt teeth
•  Severely crooked teeth
•  Misaligned jaws

How Bad Bites Affect You

Some people do not think that they need to be worried with their bad bite, but it can have long term effects. Teeth that are not aligned properly can make it difficult to keep them clean, leaving you more susceptible to cavities and gum disease. In addition, you could also be at risk for:
•  Fractured teeth
•  Malformed jaw lines
•  Difficulty with proper speech
•  Difficulty eating certain foods

If you feel your bite is not properly aligned, give us a call and let's talk about it! Adults can have their bites corrected, but the earlier that you have it done, the fewer problems you will have in the future.

Change Toothbrushes in the Summer
When was the last time you changed yours or your child's toothbrush? Are the bristles bent? Change them. If it's been more than three months, change them. It's recommended to change your toothbrush about every three months due to wear and tear of the bristles, germ accumulation, and you should always change your brush after an illness. For young kids, go out and purchase your child the perfectly sized toothbrush with soft bristles and throw those germs away! For older kids and grown-ups, we recommend an electric toothbrush with a removable head that you can replace regularly. A new toothbrush is the best gift you could give your mouth this summer as you pave the way to good oral health.
