Protect Your Mouth This Summer |
|
When the summer rolls around, you think about hanging out outside with friends and family, maybe having a barbeque. These are great activities for you to have. However, you need to make sure you protect yourself when you have them. If you don't remember to protect yourself ahead of time, you could wind up doing something that may hurt your body. Here are a few protection tips before you indulge in summertime fun.
Make Sure to Keep Food Choices in Mind
If you love a good barbeque, then you need to make sure that you eat it along with foods that can help clean your teeth. Barbeque is sticky and many sauces contain sugar, which can sometimes cause damage to your teeth. By eating vegetables that can clean your teeth and cutting down a side dishes high in carbohydrates, you minimize the damage the sauce can do to your teeth.
Always Use Sunscreen, Even Near Your Mouth
Sunscreen is a must when spending time outdoors. If you go out and have fun in the sun with family and friends, then make sure you use sunscreen. You want a sunscreen that is safe to use on your face, and to include the skin around your mouth. There is also lip balm that includes SPF which can protect your lips from sun damage. These areas are easy to overlook and could wind up with a sunburn, potentially leading to long term damage, or in some cases cancer. Did you know that its even possible to get Melanoma in your mouth?! So always make sure to wear sunscreen - at least 20 SPF - and don't forget to reapply after going in the water.
If you use these tips, you are much more likely to have fun without the long-term damage your mouth may otherwise have to endure. Enjoy your summer, just make sure to do it safely.

Should You Get Dental Sealants As an Adult?
|
Dental sealants help to protect your teeth from problems. Most of the time, children get these put on their teeth since they struggle to brush as well as an adult. However, they are not the only ones that can benefit from this procedure. If you are an adult, you may want to find out about sealants, too. They can help protect your teeth from debris and decay by keeping the little crevices and cracks in your teeth sealed. That extra layer keeps everything out, helping to prevent cavities. People of all ages should ask about getting dental sealants because of how much they can help maintain good oral health.

How Often Should You Change Your Toothbrush? |
Do you regularly change out your toothbrush, or the head of your electric toothbrush? If not, you may not be doing everything you can to keep your teeth clean. Your toothbrush should be changed out everything three months on average, but there are times where you need to change it out sooner. If you have cold sore breakout, then you need to change your toothbrush once the medication starts to cure the breakout. The same goes if you get diagnosed with a contagious disease, such as strep. It is best to get another toothbrush than risk infecting yourself all over again, even if you have not gotten to the three-month mark.
