Ways of Keeping Dental Infections Away
Dental infections can cause a lot of trouble if left untreated for too long. You need to make sure that you always keep track of what is going on inside your mouth, especially if you recently had any dental work done. There are many things that can be done to help prevent infections in and around your mouth. Here are a few of the best tips for keeping your mouth clean and healthy.

Always Brush Your Teeth and Floss Properly

As a general rule, flossing needs to be done at least once per day (twice is better!) and brushing twice per day. If you recently had dental work done, you still need to keep your teeth and gums clean but be sure to follow post-procedure instructions you received to avoid problems while healing. Be gentle in order to avoid damaging the area where work was done, but keep the area clean as a way of preventing an infection.

Rinse with a Salt Water Solution

By taking the time to rinse your mouth with a mild solution of salt water, you reduce the chances of developing an infection. The salt cleanses the area, and allows for fewer bacteria to live in the conditions within your mouth. We will give you guidelines for how often you should use salt water rinses in your post-procedure instructions to help promote the best healing possible.

Sports Essentials for Spring - Mouth Guard
In budgeting for your family's sports activities this season, we encourage you to include the purchase of a properly fitting mouth guard. Hard surface sports, contact sports, and even skateboarding and bike riding can result in broken teeth.

Inserting a mouth guard becomes as routine as suiting up or grabbing the bicycle clips. Start this safety habit at the beginning of the season and save potential tears and expense later.

If your child is in orthodontics the orthodontic office can make a sports guard to fit comfortably over the brackets & wires.

Why Timing How Long You Brush is So Important
When was the last time you timed how long you brushed your teeth? Most adults do not do it regularly, but they should. If you do not brush for the full two minutes each time, you could be missing parts of your mouth, and this could put you in danger of developing cavities. Take a moment today to time how long you brush. It's easy... really! Start the timer and look away, brushing like normal. Then, when you are done, look back. Did you brush for at least two full minutes? If not, make sure you add a bit of time to your routine. Your teeth will thank you for it!
